Weekend Snapshot # 29 - My Ballerina

Finally, after 2 cancelled ballet class (one was when she got sick and the second one was when the class was rescheduled because the teachers have out of town shows), we were able to attend Bela’s first day of class at Halili last February 14.

Look at how cute my daughter is wearing her ballet costume. (I promise I will post more pictures and detailed stories on Bela’s blog soon).

She really enjoyed her first day and she was able to finish the whole 1 hour class. I was really worried at first to enroll her right away as she might not like it, but I was surprised since she was really following all the instructions of her teacher and she was really trying so hard to copy all the movements of her teachers.

I am a Tamagotchi

As defined in Wikipedia, a Tamagotchi is a handheld digital pet created in 1996 by Aki Maita and sold by Bandai. The Tamagotchi is housed in a small and simple egg-shaped computer. Three buttons (A, B, and C) allow the user to select and perform an activity, including:
• Feeding the Tamagotchi a piece of food or a snack.
• Playing games with the Tamagotchi.
• Cleaning up a Tamagotchi's waste.
• Checking its age, discipline, hunger, happiness and other statistics.
• Connecting with other friends
During my college days, we use the term Tamagotchi to refer to our buddies who are so lazy and do nothing but lie around and bum around – what they do is just sleep, play and eat.

I think I am like a Tamagotchi this week. I am on training for a week and the method of delivering the course is mentor base where I just have to listen to the video presentations and then after each module there are laboratory exercises and review quizes. So for the whole day, I just sit in one corner of the room of New Horizons minding my own business and without even talking to the other participants since we are all busy finishing all the modules for the training. Then we don’t even have to go to the cafeteria for breaks as the food (AM and PM snacks and lunch) is being served in our own work area.

So for the whole day, I just watch videos and eat. But unlike the Tamagotchi, this is brain draining too. I thought that I will have a relaxing week but I guess mental activities are more tiring and stressful for me than physical activities as I am so tired at the end of the day after one whole day of attending training.

Used or New?

A few days ago we are so firm with our decision that we will be buying a brand new car as we really need a second car starting June. So last week, we started preparing the documents that we will need for a car loan. We even scheduled an appointment with our bank’s account manager as we really want to apply for a loan right away so we can proceed in buying our second car.

But then when hubby and I sat down last night to talk and really think about it, we both feel that the price of a brand new car is too much and we can use it instead to finance the renovation of our house. So this got us into thinking if we should buy a brand new car or just settle for a used one.

Buying a second hand and a brand new car has its own advantages and disadvantages. A few years ago, we bought a Used Kia, a Kia Sportage. My husband just loves it as he really wanted an SUV and the car still looks good with its mag wheels, spoiler, tinted window and great audio setup. But then we have to allot a certain amount of our budget for its repair and maintenance. On the other hand, a brand new car is very low in maintenance especially on its first five years but then again, its price is higher compared to a second hand car.

So we have been doing our readings and we checked out a lot of sites that can help us with our decision. One site that caught our attention was the site of Autotropolis.com. They have a wide range of used cars and brand new cars of different models and brands like Kia, Toyota, Ford, and others. They even have a buying guide where they provide tips and suggestions to help customers find their dream car. And even without personally visiting each car dealers, we were able to have a glimpse of how the car looks because of the numerous pictures of each car that they have on their site. Plus they even offer incentives like Kia Rebates to give consumers more savings.

We still haven’t made up our mind yet. But at least after doing some readings, we were able to have a broader perspective and I am sure it will really help us decide if we will buy a brand new car or we can just settle for a second hand for now.

Weekend Snapshot # 28 - Fun at the Animal Farm

Two Sundays ago, Toddlers Unlimited celebrated Family Day with a half day of fun at Tagaytay Highlands. It was indeed a family affair for us as my mom and dad and my siblings went with us to attend Bela’s Family day and we went around Tagaytay after the event.

Of course Bela had a blast as we visited the Animal Farm inside Tagaytay Highlands (I will post detailed stories about this soon on Bela’s blog). Just look at the pictures to see how much Bela had fun.

Saturday 9: Be My Valentine

1. Do you have Valentine’s Day plans? Nope. We really don’t make plans on Valentine’s Day since my cousin’s birthday falls on the heart day so we always celebrate with her.

2. Do you buy a Valentine’s Day gift for someone special? Nope. Hubby and I are no big fan of Valentine’s Day. LOL. And since February is just a month away from our anniversary month and hubby and my birthday month, we always end up having no budget for Valentine’s Day since we already had three big celebrations on January.

3. What, so far, was the happiest event of your life? When I promise forever to my now husband, Howell, and when I gave birth to my precious princess Bela.

4. What is the best job that you ever have had? My current job – I have the best boss and the best colleague (Michelle), I get to go to Canada for free whenever I have training, the pay is good, and the working hours are family friendly (I work from 8-4:30 every Monday to Thursday and from 8 – 1:30 every Friday)

5. What would be your fantasy job? I want to be a flight stewardess. LOL.

6. What would you think would be the worst job? I have no idea, honestly. Or maybe, working with Keefe Marley Tan (he was my former boss at CSB and he really made my life there a living hell because of his insecurities. LOL)

7. What foreign countries have you visited? US, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore

8. What foreign country would be your fantasy trip? I love to go to Paris, Rome and Africa.

9. Since leaving your home growing up, how many places have you lived? I have lived my entire life in Manila.

His concert will be on March 27, 2009 at 8:00 pm and it will be held at the Araneta Coliseum. (Oh, the date coincides with our anniversary when Howell and I were still dating. This will be a perfect anniversary date. LOL).

I love Craig David. I love his type of music and so I love almost all his songs. Some of my favorites are: Seven Days, Fill Me In, Rendezvous, and Time to Party among others. I think I know almost all the lyrics to all his songs and I remember there was a time when I will listen to nothing but Craig David’s CDs. That is how much I like his songs.

I hope we can get to watch his concert. The ticket prices are quite steep so I’m hoping that I will find more sidelines to finance the tickets for his concert. LOL.

Itinerary for Today

I woke up early today as I have to finish a lot of tasks before our busy day. So what’s line up for us today?

1. We will drop by at Mind Specialist School to pay for the balance for the summer classes that I enrolled for Bela. We initially enrolled her for one program (Phonetics, Arts, Music and Movement) but then we realized that this is almost the same as their activity at Toddlers Unlimited. So we decided to enroll her to the Reading Readiness and Magic Strokes program since she will have Reading and Writing at MSS and this is one thing that Bela hates to do now so at least it will prepare her before the start of her new class in June.
2. Then we will go to Halili Cruz School of Ballet for Bela’s first day of class. She was supposed to start her class here two weeks ago but then she got sick and last week there was no class because the teachers have out of town shows. So it is only today that she finally was able to attend her first formal ballet class and she had a blast. I will post more about it on Bela’s blog.
3. We have to buy a birthday present for my cousin. She specifically requested for home theater seating but there is no way we can afford it so we have to find something for her.
4. Then it will be Karaoke night at my cousin’s house to celebrate her birthday.

Looks like another busy day for us. Have a great weekend everyone!

Grande Island Resort

I want to go to the beach. I am not that happy with our Davao vacation last month (it was raining on the first day and I still didn’t have enough of the beach on our 2nd and 3rd day) and so I wanted to have another vacation this summer.

I tried looking for airfare going to Bohol, Boracay or Cebu but since it is already the peak season, the prices are way much higher compared to when I booked during Cebu Pacific’s promo period.

So in my search for another beach adventure, I found Grade Island Resort. One of my friends had their team building exercise here two years ago so I have to ask her if the resort is okay. But from their website, the resort looks promising.

Grande Island Resort is located at Subic Bay Freeport Zone and you have to ride a ferry to go to the island. The resort offers a lot of great amenities like a swimming pool, a recreation center and they offer a lot of different water sports like water bicycle, kayak and a lot more.

They have an ongoing promo now which is valid until March 31, 2009. For only P6,600, guests will enjoy an overnight stay at the resort for four persons, 3 meals per room night (Set breakfast, Resort lunch and BBQ dinner), one complimentary banana boat ride for 4 persons, free use of all amenities such as fishing reel, billiard, volley ball, free fishing in the lake, life jacket and others.

I called them yesterday and they still have available rooms on the 20th to the 21st of March which is my father’s birthday. I still have to talk to my siblings first if they are up to my plan and also hubby.

Just thinking about it makes me feel excited and stress free already. Hope my plan will push through.

Old Navy's Baby Sale

I was looking for information about Japanese Magnolia trees but then I suddenly stopped when I saw Old Navy’s advertisement. They are giving 40% off for majority of their items from their Baby and Maternity Section and they even offer free shipping for orders $50 and up.

I have been controlling myself and have been avoiding online shopping for weeks now. Just a few weeks ago, Old Navy had a 50% off promo but I was successful in restraining myself since I did not buy anything online. Maybe it is because I really wanted to start saving this year or could it be that I did not find anything that interest me since they are still featuring their winter collection so I can’t find anything that suits our tropical weather. LOL.

But when I checked Old Navy’s site now, they already have their spring collections and there are a lot of cute items like this:

The sale is until February 19. Let’s see what will happen before the sale end. Do you think I can still control myself from shopping?

My Laptop

I don’t know what is wrong with my laptop. I used to be able to access my emails remotely from home but since last week, I can’t seem to be able to. I always get a Java error that is keeping me from accessing my emails. I know that my laptop has the latest version of Java installed but I still get the same error. I tried on another PC and I was able to get in so it is not my account that has the problem.

Oh well, maybe I need to upgrade the computer memory of my laptop or I need to reformat it again and reinstall all the software. I haven’t scanned it for viruses for months now because I can’t even install the latest updates for the anti virus software also. My laptop is useless. LOL.

But I still love it. I have no choice. No matter how much I wanted to abandoned it and get a new one, I have a list of other priorities and a laptop is not at the top of my list so I really don’t have a budget now for a new laptop. So I just have to make do with what I have right now.

3x Thursday: 02/12/y2k+9: TV

1. Do you watch TV? If so, what kinds of things do you watch? If not, why not? I used to be couch potato. But things change now since my daughter owns our TV. I can’t watch TV now because she is always watching her favorite DVD or her favorite TV shows. But before, I love watching reality TV shows like Amazing Race, American Idol, Survivor, Apprentice, America’s Next Top Model, etc. I also love the CSI series (Vegas, New York and Miami).

2. If you watch TV, what are your favorite types of programs? Which ones do you watch? If you don't watch TV, what do you do instead? I love reality shows and crime and suspense type of shows.

3. Can you imagine a world without TV? What do you think it would be like? Do you think it would be a better place to be? I can’t imagine the world without TV. A world without TV would really be dull and boring. And also TV is a great source of information too.

MBAP's Summer Outing

MBAP’s official events organizer, Jacqui, already started planning for MBAP's summer outing. I am sure it will be one fun day again. One, it is the first out of town outing of the MBAPs together with our families. Second, it is the first time that we will see the new addition to the growing number of MBAP kids. Almost everybody confirmed that they can make it on the said date (May 16 and 17) so I am really excited.

Jacqui gave us two options for our itinerary.

Option 1: We will just meet at Tagaytay Highlands, have our breakfast there so the kids can enjoy a deep at the pool after breakfast. Then by 12 noon we will go out of Tagaytay Highlands to have lunch at Sonya’s Garden. Then after lunch we can do another activity for the kids like horse back riding or we can stay at one house to rest. Then we will have dinner at Leslie’s and a coffee nightcap at Starbucks or Bag of Beans.

Option 2: We will have an early lunch at Sonya’s Garden then we will go straight to Tagaytay Highlands so the kids can enjoy the pool in the afternoon. Then we will have dinner at Leslie’s and then coffee after dinner at Starbucks or Bag of Beans.

(Looks like we will have one great food trip in Tagaytay. I better start reading about Hydroxycut reviews so I will know what fat burner to take after this trip. LOL.)

Among the two options, I prefer Option 2 so we don’t have to wake up early to meet up with them in Tagaytay. I know this is still several months away but I am excited already. That is how much I miss the girls!!

One at a time

We’re not sure if Bela can go to school tomorrow. The problem is, we have to send our car for repair again tomorrow. I don’t exactly know what the problem is but my dad said that it is not safe to use our car until we send it for repairs.

That’s the problem with buying second hand cars. Can you imagine, we just sent it for repair the other week and then just a few days after another problem will come out. I don’t want to sum up all the expenses that we incurred for car repairs but I am sure if we just save it, we can afford to buy another second hand car.

A car is really a necessity for us rather than a luxury. So either this months or next month, we plan to buy a brand new car. Howell wants to get another second hand SUV but I told him I would rather pay more just to get a car with the best performance parts rather than a cheaper second hand car that we have to send for repairs a few months after we buy it.

So we have to set aside our plans for the renovation of our house in Bulacan until 2010 and we have to prioritize buying a brand new car for now as we really need a car to take Bela to school, specially this coming June, since she will start to go to school everyday.

So one project at a time. Car for now and maybe (I’m crossing my fingers), house repairs and another property acquisition in 2010.

Valentines’ Day Cruise

It’s Valentine’s Day once again. I and hubby will just be at home. Yes, we are never really a big fan of celebrating Valentine’s Day on the 14th. Besides it is the birthday of my cousin and since our family is really close, we always celebrate all our birthdays together so on the 14th, we will just be at home (or wherever we plan to go) to celebrate my cousins birthday as one happy family.

But for those couples who are not as boring as us (LOL), you can try this unique way of celebrating Valentine’s day with your love one less the hassle of having to reserve a seat at a restaurant days in advance add to that the stress that it will give you if you get stuck in traffic as it traffic will be really heavy for sure on this day of hearts specially it falls on a weekend.

So leave your worries this Valentine’s Day and sail off in a cruise with your love one.

Tagaytay Food Trip

Last Sunday was Toddlers Unlimited Family Day Celebration at Tagaytay Highlands (I will make a separate post about that on Bela’s blog and I will post some pictures soon). The activity was scheduled from 9-12 and we have the option to dine with the group or leave before lunch if we opted to have lunch on our own.

We checked the menu for the food that they will be offering for our lunch and for the price of P300, we didn’t really find the menu very appetizing. And since Tagaytay is the best place for a food trip, we decided to just have our lunch outside Tagaytay Highlands.

Every time we are in Tagaytay, we always dine in at the same restaurants like Leslie’s, Josephine’s, Moon Garden, Bag of Beans and Gerry’s Grill and we never really tried other restaurants there. Hope there was a site where I can read reviews about the best restaurants in Tagaytay just like the site of Westword. The site has a section where they provide reviews and guides for Denver Restaurants. They even have a Critic’s pick where I can read reviews about the restaurants that the critics picked themselves. Plus the site is categorized by price range, by cuisine, by location and by restaurant features so I can easily check the restaurants that I like.

If there is a site like this for Tagaytay, I am sure we would be able to explore all the restaurants in Tagaytay and it would really be one nice food trip.

OB checkup and Chinese Calendar

Bela got sick last weekend and I have to take an emergency leave last Monday to take her to her pediatrician. She is doing much better last Monday compared to her condition during the weekend and she no longer has fever but we still brought her to her doctor just to be sure.

Since my OB is also holding a clinic on Mondays and her clinic is just a few rooms away from Bela’s pediatrician, I decided to have a check up also. I had my annual pap smear and I can get the results in 10 days. She also asked me to have an anti HBS which I will be having tomorrow.

So we are really go for Baby # 2 this year. LOL. We are hoping for a boy this time so we are really praying for it and I have been doing some readings and research also about the Chinese calendar. I need to look for coilovers on the net but then I decided to research about Chinese Calendar first. And these are the things that I discovered after doing my research and after talking to my Chinese friends (thanks Jane for the tips):

1. I found a lot of websites that gives you an image of the Chinese Calendar but doesn’t mention that the age should be the CHINESE age of the women at time of conception and the month is the lunar month in the Chinese calendar.

2. Calculating for your Chinese age is really complicated as there are a lot of factors to consider. Good thing I found a site on the net that can help me compute for my Chinese age. Follow this link: Calculate your Chinese Age on Certain Date. Just enter your time zone, your birth year and the date of conception (in the Age Year line) to get your Chinese Age.
3. I also found a site to get the Chinese lunar month of conception here. Just enter the date of Conception in Solar Year line to get the Chinese lunar month.

I hope this will be a big help for those who are as confuse as I am with regards to how to use the Chinese Calendar to predict your baby’s gender.

CSI Vegas on AXN this February

Bela was sleeping so soundly when I arrived home last Tuesday that I was able to catch up with my favorite TV series. And I was so excited and happy to find out that the new season of CSI Vegas is coming on AXN this month.

I love CSI Vegas better than all the other CSIs (CSI Miami and CSI New York). I love the chemistry that each of the character brings to the show – the eccentric character of Grissom, Sarah’s love for Grissom, the coolness and sexiness of Warrick and Greg, the compassionate heart of Nick, and the sexiness and wittiness of Catherine. Plus the ending of the last season was so tragic (Warrick Brown was shot by the head of the Bureau) that I really can’t wait how the team will solve the death of one of their team mates or if they will ever get to the bottom of who killed Warrick Brown since it involves a high ranking official in the Bureau. Although I would still want to have Warrick Brown in the show (but I think it is impossible since he has been force to resign from the show because he is having some drug problems), but I am also excited to see who will replaced Warrick’s character in the show.

Oh I think I really have to convince hubby to buy a new plasma tv for our bedroom so I will not fail to watch all my favorite TV series.

This is what I have been pigging out every night. Hubby arrived home one night with this bag of goodies and I can’t stop myself from eating them.

And then my cousin also told me that Royce Chocolate store is already opened at Rockwell (I think they are already open for a month now). When we went to Hong Kong, we bought different kinds of chocolates from Royce at their Causeway Bay store and we really love it. Even hubby who is not into chocolates loves it too. So when I learned that they open a branch at Rockwell, I have been bugging hubby ever since that we drop by at Rockwell and grab some chocolates.

I still haven’t tried their chocolate truffles which I heard really melt in your mouth and I would love to grab one of their potato chips chocolate again.

I’m sure the next thing that I have to asked hubby to buy for me is an elliptical as I am sure I have a gained a lot of weight already from eating chips and chocolate every night.

Life in the City

I can’t remember the last time we visited out house in Bulacan. We use to spend our weekends there. Hubby likes the life in the suburbs – quiet, no pollution and very relaxing and stress free. He also likes to visit and check out the trees that he himself planted there like the mango trees, Loquat trees and papaya trees. We also have a small hog farm there which is being taken care of by my grand father.

But ever since we got a store in Greenhills and ever since we started enrolling Bela to the Saturday class at Gymboree and Little Gym, we hardly find the time to drive a few minutes North of Manila to visit our house in Bulacan.

But you know hubby dreams that someday we will have the budget for the renovation of our house and we will leave the busy life in Manila and enjoy the quiet life in the suburbs. But for now, we just have to endure the hustle and bustle of city life.
