Weekend Snapshot #2 - The Diver

Monday, April 28, 2008

We caught this diver cleaning the big fish tank in the underwater world of the Manila Ocean Park. We asked one of the Manila Ocean Park staff to take our picture with him and he gamely struck a pose for us.

It is our first time here at the Manila Ocean Park and the place was really amazing. Although there are still a lot of facilities that is not yet available, I was able to enjoy our trip here as I realized how beautiful life under the ocean is.

We’re booked – YMCA International House, SG

Finally, after days and months of searching for a hotel for our SG trip, I was finally able to do my booking just this morning.

At first I was having second thoughts of booking a hotel along Orchard road and my first option is the Summerview hotel along Bencoleen St. (Bugis and Arab Street). It is P4000 cheaper than the hotels along Orchard road but after reading the reviews and getting the opinions of my friends and officemates who have been there, they discouraged me to book that hotel. Since we have a two year old daughter traveling with us and they said that it is not really a good place if you are traveling with a toddler since some of the rooms don’t have windows and there is a night market which makes it really noisy in the evening.

I also asked for my husband’s opinion and he reminded me of our bad experience when we stayed at a hostel in Hong Kong. I was trying to save money that time since we are traveling as a big group so we all decided to sacrifice comfort over money. And honestly, I really hate the kind of accommodation that we got there and swore that I will never do it again.

And so I gave in. I realized that I can never find a good accommodation for my budget along Orchard road so I really have to increase our budget for hotel accommodation. And with hubby’s go signal and assurance that he will give additional money for our accommodation, I booked our hotel today.

I booked a superior triple occupancy room at YMCA International House along Orchard road. I read the reviews and all reviews are good. Plus it is located next to a bus stop and MTR station.

I just booked online via Asia Travel. This is my second time that I booked a hotel through them and it was a breeze. I just entered my credit card details and in just minutes, our rooms are confirmed and I immediately received our Hotel Voucher.

So next on my To do list: do some research and plan our itinerary.

Yaya Problems

Saturday, April 26, 2008

If some of you might remember, I posted some entries here and on my other blog about my rantings for my yaya.

This time she really gets on my nerves. Why you may ask?
  • I found out from my grandmother that they had an argument two days ago and she answered back. None of us ever answers back to my grandmother and so I was really mad that she (who is not even part of our family) will do that to my grandmother
  • If I ask her to do something and she doesn’t want to do it, she will make up tons and tons of reasons so she doesn’t have to do it. Like I was asking her to buy me cheeseburger. She answered the store is too far, or that it’s already late and the store is already close.
  • I found out from my mom that she usually shouts at Bela when she’s already irritated with her. My mom will just say “Ate Cris, don’t shout at me. Talk to me nicely please.” And then yesterday, she was taking a nap and Bela asked her to look for her giraffe. She answered “Tinatago mo, tapos ngayon hahanapin mo. Haller.” (You’re hiding it and now you will look for it. Haller). OMG, I can’t believe she talks to my daughter that way.
  • She always sleeps late because she always watches PBB. And so she wakes up late too in the morning and breakfast is not yet ready and we are late for work.
  • Yesterday, I was tired after Bela’s field trip. So I was looking forward to taking a nap after eating lunch. And lo and behold, she’s sleeping so I have to take care of Bela. My mom said that she do this everyday.
My list can go on and on and the more I think about it the more irritated I become. We didn’t let her go the first time because out of all the yayas that we had, she is really the most efficient. But it looks like she is so at home now that she doesn’t even know her limits and she doesn’t even know how to show respect. There are times, when she has tantrums, you can she her making faces and “nagdadabog.” I told my mom, I too get irritated at work but I never show disrespect to my boss. Maybe she feels that we really need her and so she is confident that no matter what she does, we won’t ask her to leave.

So I think it’s really time to let go off her now. My only problem is, how do I do it? How do I tell her that I want her to leave? I have never done this before so I really don’t know how to tell her. Of course, no matter how irritated I am with her, I still would want to let her go in a nice way. Any suggestions?

On being Rebecca Bloomwood

Thursday, April 24, 2008

For the Shopaholic readers out there, you probably would remember that once of Rebecca Bloomwood’s dream is that she will suddenly receive her credit card bill and will find out that all her debts are gone.

Who wouldn’t want that to happen, right? Well almost the same thing happen with my Citibank credit card. I received my billing statement for this month and I have a –P12, 000 balance. So I was really surprised and so when I reviewed my bill, I discovered that they posted my payment for last month twice.

I was so happy after seeing that. I started to dream like Becky in the Confessions of a Shopaholic book. Imagine, I don’t have to pay anything for this month. I got really excited and started to plan already what I’m going to do with that excess money.

But then I realize, Citibank is not that stupid not to notice it (specially it is a big amount –P54, 000) and so my happiness was short lived. Maybe for this month, I don’t have to pay but for sure they will probably debit the double payment that they posted on my account.

And so I was right. I checked my account online yesterday and they already debited P54, 000 to my account. And so I thought, I will be able to fool Citibank. LOL.

Sarah & Grissom love story - Is it really the end?

Tuesday, April 22, 2008

Have you seen the last episode of CSI Vegas? I was not able to watch the last two episodes and the last episode that I was able to watch was when Grissom proposed to Sarah. I was so happy with the turn out of events that I even made a post about it here.

I was not able to catch it last Wednesday so I just watched the re run last Sunday. I was so excited to watch it but then I realized, Sarah was really acting weird. She looks sad, disoriented, and not her usual self and she even ignored Grissom. So I was really bothered and so I sent and SMS to my cousin asking her what did I missed from the last two episodes since I really don’t get the point that Sarah looks really sad. The last thing I remember was she and Grissom was all happy after the proposal and I thought they would really live happily ever after. And so when my cousin replied, she just said that she too can’t understand Sarah and that I should really watch this episode.

And so I was really surprised to find out that the ending would be she will have to leave Las Vegas. She said on her letter to Grissom that when she was left alone in the desert by the serial killer, it made her realized things. And although she really loves Grissom and Grissom is the only person that she can call home, she still would have to leave.

This is not how I imagined their love story would end. Not like this. Sarah said in her letter to Grissom that she doesn’t even know where she will be going. I just hope that in the next episodes, she will come back and she and Grissom will finally live happily ever after.

Too Purple?

Sunday, April 20, 2008

What happens when you’re alone, bored and got nothing to do? As for me, I suddenly decided to change the template of my blog.

Howell was working overtime last Friday and Bela stayed at her lola’s house for the night. So I was left all alone in our house with nothing to do. So I tried searching for a new template for my blog.

I thought I would be sleeping early that night but I got too engrossed that I ended up sleeping around 2 AM. I even attempted to do some HTML programming to edit the design and lay out of the template that I downloaded. Good thing I can still remember some of the tags that I usually use when I was still doing some simple web programming in the office.

And so the result is….my blog with the new purple template. Hubby and my sister commented that it is too purple. I reasoned it is because the theme of my log is “My Planet Purple.” But then I realized, yeah, it is too purple. LOL. But what the heck, I’m loving this new template for now. If I get inspired again, I might change it to a new one in a week. LOL.

Temporary Duty to Micronesia

Friday, April 18, 2008

Some of you might remember how affected and sad I was when Howell went to the US last December for three weeks for his training. I’m really not used to hubby being away from us that long. I was even about to cry on the first night that he was not here with us. Thanks to Peachy, she stayed awake until 2AM and she chatted with me so I will be preoccupied and won’t have a chance to emote and cry on the first night that Howell left.

And just this week, it was confirmed by Howell’s boss that he might be send to temporary duty for three weeks to one of the US territory in the Micronesia this coming June.

I feel sad and scared again. Just thinking of the idea that he will be far away from us for three weeks makes me feel sad all over again. But according to him, it’s a blessing so I should be happy about it. First, he will be able to travel again for free and be able to visit the Micronesia. Second, since there are no malls there (yup no malls, only beach resorts) he will be able to save big from his per diem since he will not be doing some shopping, so we will have extra money for our Singapore trip.

Honestly, right now, I really don’t know what to feel. I’ll just deal with it when that time comes. Anyways, I have a whole list of things to blog about so that should keep me busy while he is gone (I hope so).

Poor service at Chinese General Hospital

Thursday, April 17, 2008

My mom and dad rushed my aunt to the hospital around 2 Am today because she is having high blood pressure. She is doing ok now, thank God. She was not admitted and she was just given medicines to help lower her blood pressure.

But I got really pissed when I heard what happened from my mom. Since it’s the wee hours of the morning when they brought my aunt to the emergency room of CHINESE GENERAL HOSPITAL , all the resident doctors are apparently “SLEEPING” when they arrived. At first, one of the doctors attended to my aunt. Well actually she did not really attend to my aunt since all she did was just asked what my aunt is feeling. And my dad answered she is having high blood pressure. Then the doctor argues that you don’t feel “high blood pressure”. My dad was a little pissed already with how they are dealing with my aunt’s condition so my mom took over in talking to the doctor. But after my mom described to the doctor how my aunt is feeling, she went missing in action and that’s when they found out that he went to sleep. The other doctor on the reception desk is also sleeping while the third doctor was also sleeping at the bed beside my aunt.

OMG, what kind of service is this. To think CHINESE GENERAL HOSPITAL is a private hospital. Lucky them I was not with my aunt because I would have wakened all of them up and they would definitely hear something from me. Hello, we’re paying customers here and it is an emergency.

But we are just thankful that nothing bad happened to my aunt and she’s doing ok now. I just hope that doctors at CHINESE GENERAL HOSPITAL will not do this with their other patients specially they are stationed at the Emergency Room.

MEN HUNT TAG- also known as the Men-I-would-like-to-sleep-with-if-only-I-were-single tag.

1. Marc Nelson

I was never a fan of Marc Nelson. And honestly, I used to hate him before because a lot of girls are going crazy for him. But then watching him at the Amazing Race Asia made me realize that he is a good person with a good heart and good breeding, good looking, a hunk, and he is really the type of Men-I-would-like-to-sleep-with-if-only-I-were-single. LOL.

2. Hugh Jackman
He is my first love.

3. George Clooney
Need I explain more? He is the ultimate most desired bachelor.

4. Brad Pitt

Another one of those men where I don’t have to explain why I like him. Just seeing him makes me really want to say “You’re so delicious”

5. Ding Dong Dantes
Just like Marc Nelson, I used to ignore Ding Dong and took no notice of him. But after seeing how sexy and good looking he is when I was watching Marimar, I immediately became a fan. I even became addicted to Marimar but then I started watching Amazing Race and Marc replaced Ding Dong in my heart. LOL.

6. Elliot Yamin

He is not the typical hunk that I like, but his voice and his good personality truly melts my heart.

I had my exercise

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

I had an early lunch break today because I went to TU to check out how Bela is doing in her class.

TU is about 5 blocks (or more) from my office and I have to walk all the way from RCBC to Alpap Building where Toddlers Unlimited is located. And it is really very hot outside as I went out around 11:45 AM so it was really one exercise for me.

But everything is good as I totally forgot that I walked that far after seeing my daughter enjoying her class. Almost all the kids in her class are crying while Bela was having the time of her life. I was one proud mom. And she gave me her cutest smile and a big hug as soon as she sees me when they went out of their room to play at the romp area.

So there. I had my exercise and I was able to see my daughter having fun

What’s new with Coach this April?

Sunday, April 13, 2008

Ever since Howell bought me a Coach bag for Christmas, Coach has been one of my favorite designer bags. So I have been constantly checking their site for their new designs. Still drooling as I still can’t afford it (I’m waiting for the next Christmas and hoping that hubby will buy me another one. Wink, wink). But I still won’t get tired of posting these cute bags from Coach.

All pictures, from Coach official website.

Marc & Paula

Saturday, April 12, 2008

I was up until 2:30 AM last night. You know what I have been busy with?

I was searching for news about Marc and Rovilson and whatever happened to them after the Amazing Race. And I found a site where it is discussing a buzz about Marc and Paula (from Thailand), that the two are possibly dating.

I also found videos from youtube when Paula guested at Sports Unlimited. So I got obsessed searching for videos of Marc and Paula that I end up watching each of their videos in youtube. And I didn’t notice it is already 2:30 AM.

I really like Marc and Paula as a couple. Hope they will end up together. According to Diane Castillejo in her opinion, the best thing that happened to Marc and Paula in the Amazing Race Asia is that they met each other. (Wink, wink). Is this a first hand confirmation form Diane that the two is really an item?

Be careful of hackers in YM

Be careful when sending information to Yahoo Messenger

Around 10 PM, I was chatting with my high school friend in YM about our kid’s pediatrician. It was our usual chat as we always talk about our kids. Our chat ended around 10:30 PM as she has to attend to her son.

At around 11 Pm, I received another message from her asking me what time it was. I answered, 11 PM and asked her where she was. She replied by saying she hit the wrong window. After that she immediately opened a conversation and asked me if I know a supplier of Globe prepaid cards as her friend from Milan will be ordering 50 pieces of P500 worth of load and Globe’s quotation is P800 per card. I might want to supply the prepaid cards if I know somebody so I can earn extra cash. She kept on saying she wanted to supply for her friend’s order but she has no money to finance it so she’s offering it to me instead. She said that I’ll be sending her via email the card number, pin, etc so she can send it to her friend in Milan. When I asked her how she can pay me, she just answered “I’ll take care of it.”

I’m already skeptical if I’m really talking to my real friend since she doesn’t talk to me that way. So I already have an inkling that somebody is impersonating my friend and is using her account. I told her I have to ask my brother because I don’t know the details so I’ll just let her know the next day since my brother is already sleeping. She said that I can just send her a text message and gave me a new number and her alibi is (which is really lame) she will be changing cell phone the next day (what a coincidence) so I can just text her sister. When I asked her what name to put for the new number (so I can verify if she really knows the name of my friend’s sisters) she just said I can just put it under her name also so I won’t get confused. And that I should delete her old number to avoid further confusion and just use the new number that she gave me.

I knew right then that this is a scam. And I confirmed it the very next day when I asked my friend if she sent me a message last night about prepaid cards.

Her account must have been hacked and the same thing happened with her friend in Singapore. Somebody asked for a cell phone load through YM.

It is really scary. So better be careful and don’t just trust somebody easily specially in the virtual world because we never can tell if we are talking to the right person or not. Good thing, I didn’t get easily fooled and I followed my gut instincts. Because if not, I could have easily been ripped out of P25, 000.

So just a reminder. Do be careful when dealing with individuals on the net.

Bela @ Toddlers Unlimited

Pictorial at the Fort & Lunch at Dampa

After Bela’s class at the Little Gym last Sunday, we fetched my cousin Tessa at Rockwell so we can have lunch at Contis in Serendra. It is supposed to be my mom’s birthday celebration but she was not feeling well because of high blood pressure so she was not able to go. Ironic, since the celebrant is not present for her birthday celebration.

But since those that I invited are present for the lunch celebration, we still push through with the plan without my mom. We we’re heading to Serendra, and suddenly decided that sea food at Dampa will be a more tasteful meal so we suddenly change route and head to Macapagal instead.

On our way there, we saw this unique golden tree at The Fort and we decided to have a quick stop for some phot opps. Below are some pictures.

We we’re so hungry when we reached Dampa so we really enjoyed the steamed Lapu-lapu, buttered crab and buttered shrimp that we ordered. We also brought home some food so we can still celebrate my mom’s birthday at home.

Good News – Mom Updates

Tuesday, April 8, 2008

Today, the results for my mom’s biopsy will be released. She asked my Tita to call her doctor as she is scared to call her doctor herself because she is scared of what the result might be.

But we are really thankful because the result of the biopsy is okay. They didn’t find anything cancerous from the tissues that they got from my mom after the D&C.

It was another blessing for us and we are thankful that God has always been there to take care of our family. I’m also thankful for all your prayers and all the nice words of encouragement you gave me. It really helped me during those times that I was really worried and scared. You have helped me to be strong for my family. I truly appreciate it.

Pacquiao’s NIKE TV Ad

Monday, April 7, 2008

Have you seen the new Nike commercial? It features international sports icons like the famous basketball player Kobe Bryant from USA, Portuguese footballer player Cristiano Ronaldo, the Swiss tennis player Roger Federer, the Chinese hudler Xiang Liu, the girl tennis player from Russia Maria Sharapova and of course the People’s Champ Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao.

I’m so proud of him. He is really making it big. I just hope that he will be like our other retired sports icon that ended up with nothing after they retired. Hope this time with Manny; he will learn to save up for his future. He will not be young forever so he should take advantage and save up for the future while he is still young, rich and famous.

Check out the video below from youtube of the new Nike TV ad.

Happy birthday Mommy/Lola

Sunday, April 6, 2008

Happy, happy birthday mom/lola! You have given so much for us, sacrificed a lot for us. No amount of money can ever repay what you have done for us. We won’t be in the place we are right now without your guidance and love. And thank you for taking care of Bela. We wouldn’t know how we can raise her well without your help. You’re the best mother and lola anyone can ever have.

Happy, Happy Birthday.
We love you very, very, much.

It’s that time of the year again…

Friday, April 4, 2008

for our performance appraisal, that is. I just finished mine last night and submitted it to my boss this morning. He has to review it, give his assessment of my performance for the year, discuss his assessment with me and if I agree with his ratings, then he will forward it to our big boss for final approval.

I don’t know, but every time its performance appraisal month, I always feel worried about what will be the result of my appraisal. I’m confident that I did my job well, but I really can’t help but feel worried since I’m really not sure if my boss likes my work. But I’m thankful though since I had a good appraisal last year. I hope it would still be the same for this year.

My boss hasn’t talked to me yet about it. I think he hasn’t found the time to review what I submitted to him this morning as he was busy doing something when I submitted it. He might be able to review it on Monday.

So wish me luck guys. Hope I’ll get good ratings again this year.

Happy with my OT Pay

Thursday, April 3, 2008

I just got my pay slip today and I was shocked for my overtime pay. I didn’t know that I earned that much for working from Friday to Sunday last February.

I’m so happy. I thought I can only use it to pay for Bela’s tuition fee for Toddlers Unlimited summer class. But as it turns out, I can even use it to pay for her swimming lessons.

I’m really so thankful. God has been really good to us. Every time we need cash for something, He always gives us a source on where to get the money that we need. Either I will have over time work or Howell will have bookings for his photography business. I remember all the money that we use to pay for Bela’s tuition fee at the Little Gym all came from either my overtime pay or from Howell’s sideline.

If I will always get paid for working overtime like this, I will never mind working even on weekends. LOL.

Spring in your step

Spring is really here and wouldn’t it be nice to welcome it with the new spring collection from Coach.

I would die to have those shoes. But like I said before, what I’m posting here is just my wish list. I still don’t have the budget to buy these cute wedges and flats. Priorities, priorities. There are more important things that I will be spending on so this can wait.

Brian Gorrell in Good Times with Moe

Wednesday, April 2, 2008

Brian Gorrell, the man behind the successful and famous delfindjmontano blog was at the radio show of DJ Moe this morning.

Howell is a fan of the Good Times with Moe radio program and he always listens to it on his way to work. Then I received a phone call from him on my way to work and he said that I should tune in to 89.9 because the Australian guy is going to be interviewed by DJ Moe, MoJo Jojo and Grace Lee.

At first, I don’t want to believe that Brian would actually call since they always do prank calls at the show. I remember they pretended to be interviewing Sylvester Stallone and it was really funny but it was so obvious that it’s the fake Rambo they are interviewing.

But Brian’s interview was convincing. He really sounds like the true Brian Gorrell. This really made me very curious since I was only able to read the first few posts on his blog so I really don’t know the real juicy story behind the Gucci Gang.

Oh well, maybe I should start getting addicted to this blog also as a lot of my friends are already hooked to it. And from the looks of it, since Brian is so famous now that he is being featured in almost all TV and radio shows, there must be something really juicy and interesting in his blog that makes people come back to read and rave about it.

Picnic & Paintball

Tuesday, April 1, 2008

I received a text message from my friend Lala, inviting us to play paintball with them on Saturday at La Mesa Eco Park.

Actually, I’m no fan of paintball but my hubby is. This used to be his sport; way back when he was still single and he still haven’t discovered the world of photography. I remember they use to play every Wednesday and on weekends, they would go out of town to play and compete with other paintball players.

But then he changed his hobby from paintball to photography. But I think he would love the idea of being able to play again this weekend. I already texted him but he hasn’t answered yet.

Our plan is that the husbands and boy friends can play while the mommies and the kids can have picnic at the park. So the kids can join the gimik too. Hopefully, we will be able to push through with our plan and everyone can join us so it would also be like our sort of reunion.
